it's been a couple of months since I last drew something, so I did this just to get me started - to see if I could still draw :P

I really love this. Its moving, original, and soulful, everything one could ask for. And yes, you can still draw... very much so.

Vision (4.5/5): The idea that he "created a mechanical messenger who is too afraid to fly" is beautiful in and of itself. I can see the loneliness and the despair on his face that would inspire him to do so. The ambiance the clouds create combined with the taunting seagull who has come to check things out all press this further. The only thing I don't see is the fright on the messengers face, but it is mechanical so that makes sense.

Originality (5/5): Not only is the technique and image truly your own, the genesis of the idea was within your head. It stems from a simple emotion or thought which is part of you. I bet that you own a pair of sneakers similar to his.

Technique (4.5/5): I love your original technique. Especially the rocks, with their multidimensional coloring and realistic shading look like they could really harm someone. The splash of orange in the rocks helps give the overall picture more depth. All your proportions are correct and it looks like you could reach in and touch him, while still maintaining a cartoonish atmosphere.

Impact (5/5): One thing I noticed immediately was that the man was not the stereotypical cartoon guy with a 6-pac and massive biceps. He is a very real, natural looking person. This makes his situation more relatable too. His desperation is passed on to the viewer and the fact that his messenger is broken is all the more heartbreaking. Also his broken messenger, in the shape of a seagull, is intensely contrasting the real seagull who is just flying there, innocently taunting the poor man.
