for some reason i keep imagining a story of a cancer patient in the same hospital as the old man, he was always grumpy and never talked to anyone, because it was his way of defense against a world that left him bitter, but she liked him, understood his hidden kindness, the whole hospital staff tried to make him feel better but that wouldn't work, she on the other hand had been too shy to even talk to him, cause he reminded her of her grandfather, she noticed him reading the bible every night and talking to the image of his late wife about how he wished an angel would just come and take him to her; so as his last days grew close, she summoned up her courage and made a plan with the hospital staff, she would give him an angel to guide him to his wife.
This is very heartwarming, to see the joy in the old man's face. The angel, though suspended by wires, gives him happiness and the whole piece a hopeful environment. The artwork itself is truly amazing with each detail included. I am not ashamed to say that this brought tears to my eyes. Truly magnificent work~
Wow that's emotive. I don't usually comment on random images I See on DA's front page but..this one just struck me.
Although the angel looks like she's being suspended by wires, so it makes me wonder if it's a hospital stunt to soothe a grumpy old man. (Ala Patch Adams.) But either way the expression on the old man's face makes the whole image worthwhile.
Well, I think I'd need to know more about the situation protrayed. Like, who's the angel, why is she up there in the first place, who put her there, etc...but ignoring all those contextual details, I love the composition and the moment it portrays. Wires or not, it's a beautiful image of an old man giving his last breaths, and the comfort an 'angel' (Real or not) provides to him in his last moments. Makes me think a lot about my departed grandfather...
The brilliance of a single frame of artwork is that everything you need is in YOUR head. It doesn't matter what the artist was thinking or what anyone else opines or suggests - it is the beginning or end point of the story YOU contrive upon seeing it. It's as beautiful as you want it to be. For me, this particular seed has grown into something legendary in proportion. The concept illustrated is so simple, yet so profound, that it moves my spirit like a chess piece
